MQB Key Programming
& Replacement Keys
The Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform covers some of the most popular cars on the road today, from the VW Golf and Audi A3 to the SEAT Arona and Skoda Superb. When these vehicles need new keys, the advanced encrypted transponder systems they use make programming a specialist task that goes well beyond cutting a blank and copying a chip.
At AH Locktech, we provide MQB key programming and replacement key services across Telford and Shropshire. Whether you need a spare key coded, a full replacement after losing all your keys, or a transponder fault diagnosed and resolved, we come to you fully equipped to complete most car key programming jobs on-site.

What MQB Key Services Do We Cover?
All Keys Lost
Full Replacement
Losing every key to an MQB platform vehicle is a more involved situation. Because VAG Group encryption prevents direct access to the vehicle’s immobiliser system, we use specialist software with a live server connection to generate and program a completely new key set. This is the same process a main dealer would carry out, completed at your location.
If your vehicle cannot be moved, there is no need to arrange recovery. We come to wherever the car is and handle the full replacement on-site, getting you back on the road without delay.
Spare Key
Cutting & Programming
If you still have one working key but want a spare, this is the most straightforward MQB job we carry out. We supply an OEM-quality key blank, cut it precisely to your vehicle’s profile and program it on-site so it locks, unlocks and starts your vehicle exactly as your original key does.
MQB platform vehicles cannot be paired with a new key using basic diagnostic tools alone. The programming process requires specialist software and a live connection to complete the job correctly. We carry everything needed to do this from the roadside or your driveway.
Transponder & Immobiliser Synchronisation
If your key is present but the vehicle will not start, the issue may not be the key itself. MQB transponder chips can lose their pairing with the immobiliser system following a flat battery, certain electrical faults or physical damage to the key, leaving you with a key that looks fine but no longer communicates with the car.
We can diagnose the fault, resync a transponder that has dropped its pairing, or where necessary replace and recode a faulty component. In most cases this can be resolved without a full key replacement.
MQB Key Programming
Built for VW Group Vehicles
The MQB platform has been the backbone of the Volkswagen Group’s lineup since 2012, and it now spans dozens of models across five brands. While this architecture delivers impressive security, it also means that car key programming requires a level of specialist knowledge and tooling that most general locksmiths simply do not carry.
At AH Locktech, we use the same standard of software used by main dealers, brought directly to your location. Whether your vehicle uses a traditional blade key, a remote control fob or a smart key, you get a properly programmed replacement without the dealership wait times or pricing.
Brands Covered:
- Volkswagen
- Audi
- SEAT
- Skoda
- CUPRA
FAQ
Most frequent MQB platform questions
What vehicles use the MQB platform?
MQB is used across a wide range of Volkswagen Group models from 2012 onwards. This includes the VW Golf Mk7 and Mk8, Polo Mk6, Tiguan Mk2, Passat B8, T-Roc and Touran Mk2; Audi A3, A1 Mk2, Q2 and Q3 Mk2; SEAT Leon Mk3 and Mk4, Ibiza Mk5, Arona and Ateca; and Skoda Octavia Mk3 and Mk4, Kodiaq, Karoq, Superb B8 and Fabia from 2014 onwards. If you are unsure, we can confirm from your registration before you book.
How long does MQB key programming take?
A spare key for an MQB vehicle can usually be programmed within 30 to 60 minutes on-site. An all-keys-lost replacement takes longer, typically one to two hours, due to the additional steps involved in accessing the vehicle’s immobiliser data remotely.
Is it cheaper than going to a VW, Audi, SEAT or Skoda dealer?
In most cases, yes, often significantly so. Main dealer pricing for MQB key work typically includes high parts markups and labour rates that reflect the cost of running a franchise network.
We use the same standard of programming and supply quality replacement keys at a more transparent price, without the wait.
What if I've lost all my keys and the car can't be moved?
This is one of the most common situations we deal with on MQB vehicles. Once we arrive, we connect to the vehicle’s immo system remotely to generate and register a completely new key set. We come to wherever your vehicle is located, whether that is at home, at work or on the roadside, and complete the full replacement on-site. There is no need to arrange or pay for recovery.
